Beyond the Game Capital Campaign Funding

Beyond the Game Campaign

(Canton, OH) (December 1, 2016) – Beyond the Game, The First Tee of Canton’s campaign to enhance facilities and programming for area youth, has received the support of four of Stark County’s largest foundations.  The Timken Foundation of Canton, The George H. Deuble Foundation, The Hoover Foundation, and Stark Community Foundation have all agreed to get behind the project. “Having the support of these elite foundations will allow us to take giant steps toward making our vision a reality,” said Angela Palomba, Executive Director of The First Tee of Canton.  “The Beyond the Game Campaign is about offering year-round and after-school programs that will impact more Stark County young people than ever before, making significant differences in their lives.” The foundation support, along with gifts from several other donors, will enable The First Tee of Canton to virtually complete the first phase of the project, which includes the creation of a larger indoor golf education space with golf simulators, allowing for year-round golf education onsite.  In addition, an expansion to the Deuble Learning Center will include a kitchen, classroom, and multipurpose room to support more educational programming in this collaborative learning space.  Finally, a new maintenance building will be constructed to house equipment and supplies.  The result of these improvements:  Stark County youths will be able to take advantage of more educational opportunities year-round. Phase two of the project involves improvements to the outdoor spaces, including increased parking and a redesigned golf course with additional holes, as well as building the endowment fund for long-term sustainability. Celebrating its 15th year in 2017, The First Tee of Canton is a youth development facility and learning center that provides young people in Stark County an opportunity to learn life enhancing values, character development and healthy habits through the game of golf.  In 2016, The First Tee of Canton impacted over 8,500 kids in the local community.
